Autism put at the front of the queue at Emery Gate

Emery Gate is on a mission to stamp out loneliness and has put a commitment to help people that can’t usually shop, to go shopping.

They have reached out and have handed a lifeline to people with autism by launching Autism Friendly Visual Guides, and have delivered nationally accredited Autism training across their workforce to increase their understanding of the challenges people, families, and carers face when they visit Emery Gate.

Employees of Emery Gate are personally driven to make a significant impact as they are aware first-hand of the daily barriers people face due to family relations living with autism.

Emery Gate participated in part of the national story of turning blue for Autism Awareness week, raising awareness of the disability ahead of the centre reopening on 12th April.

Emily Burton, Marketing Lead at Emery Gate, said: “Across the UK, shops are turning away the custom of 1 in 5 people by not attracting disabled people. We are delighted our mission will transform the visits of people with autism and their families, and will make Emery Gate even more enjoyable and accessible for all.

“Covid 19 has disproportionately affected disabled people, and we want to play our part in improving wellbeing in 2021. We are a small team but we are confident we can make an impact together.”
