Public Consultation on ambitious Emery Gate rejuvenation plans

Acorn Property Group is excited to announce the launch of a second public consultation in September for the ambitious transformation of Emery Gate shopping centre. This project represents a significant investment in Chippenham’s future, aiming to breathe new life into the heart of the town and making it a destination in its own right.

Acorn’s vision for Emery Gate extends beyond revitalising the traditional shopping centre. The proposed redevelopment seeks to transform Emery Gate into a multifunctional hub that blends modern retail, leisure, food and beverage options, sensitively integrating with Island Park and the River Avon, and introducing a new residential community to the town centre.

The plans are closely aligned with the Chippenham One Plan and the town’s Neighbourhood Plan, focusing on boosting the local economy, enhancing public spaces, and addressing the growing need for sustainable housing.

The next consultation, running from the 14th - 28th September 2024 will enable the community to have their say on detailed proposals for the site before a planning application is submitted to Wiltshire Council later this year.

It is a chance to further influence the development of these proposals. Following feedback from their initial consultation earlier this year in May, Acorn is proposing open spaces throughout the site, a variety of different-sized retail units to accommodate a range of businesses, and greater clarity on car parking proposals.

Key Highlights of the proposals:

  • Revitalised Commercial Offering: Emery Gate will feature over 3,500 square metres of new commercial space, introducing a mix of retail, leisure, and food and beverage options to create a lively day and evening economy.

  • New Homes for Chippenham: Approximately 200 sustainable new homes will be built on the site, reducing pressure on surrounding greenbelt areas and designed to meet low-carbon standards.

  • Making best use of the park and river: Plans include integrating the underused Island Park and the River Avon into Emery Gate’s design, creating a biodiverse natural environment for leisure and recreation. These plans aim to improve pedestrian connections and sustainable travel options in the town centre.

Caroline Wall, Project Manager at Acorn Property Group, said “We have reviewed and incorporated the feedback received on our initial proposals for Emery Gate and are thrilled to now bring forward more detailed plans - signifying the largest economic investment Chippenham has seen in decades.”

“Our plans aim to secure the future of Emery Gate, making it a destination of choice for residents and visitors, while contributing to the overall regeneration of the town. Once again, we strongly encourage the community to have their say on our plans for the future of the town centre.”

Acorn Property Group is holding a drop-in event at Emery Gate Shopping Centre on the 14th September from 10am - 4pm, where residents can meet the project team, view the proposals in more detail, and ask any questions they may have.

Details on how to participate in the consultation and share feedback can be found at https://emerygate-engage.co.uk/ or by contacting emerygate-engage@jbp.co.uk. The deadline for submitting feedback is 28th September 2024.
